About Us

Rajiv Gandhi National Ground Water Training & Research Institute (RGNGWTRI) was established in 1997 as India's first exclusive Training Institute in Groundwater studies & it continues to be the one and only domain specific training institute in the realm of ground water Science in India.

RGNGWTRI is the functional training wing of Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) under the aegis of Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti , Govt. of India. RGNGWTRI is envisaged to function as a `Centre of Excellence’ with the national role of conducting specialized training courses in groundwater science for all ground water professionals of CGWB, other Central and State Government Organizations, Public Sector Undertakings, Non-Governmental Organizations and the Academic institutions and all stake holders through three arms -Tier I, Tier II and Tier III trainings .

As on March 2023, , in total 1509 training courses have been organized by RGNGWTRI, to the benefit of 1,02,025 trainees from various allied sectors of groundwater


Targets for the ongoing AAP 2023 - 24

50 National Level Trainings for the Ground Water professionals of State and Central Government Organizations, Mandatory Trainings for Scientific, Engineering and Ministerial Cadre of CGWB, Public Sector Undertakings, Panchayat Raj Institutions, Academicians and Researchers.

20 State level Training programmes for The Ground Water Professionals and sub professionals of the State in various Ground Water Related Issues.

50 Trainings for the Grass root level Stake holders at Village level to make them competent enough to deal with Participatory Ground Water Management project.
